The forthcoming event took place in the municipality of Ribeira Brava, hosting the Walking Football Tournament. Our club, Madeira Walking Football (MWF), was represented by two spirited squads: the ‘Fun Team’ for those seeking enjoyment and camaraderie, and the ‘Competition Team,’ which showcased our competitive edge.

Ribeira Brava hosts regional Walking Football circuit (DN)
The Ribeira Brava Municipal Stadium hosted the 4th stage of the 2023/2024 Walking Football Regional Circuit on Saturday 20 April.
The competition brought together seven teams in both the recreational and competitive sections, with the Madeira Walking Football and Rami teams winning respectively. After passing through the municipalities of Machico, Calheta and Porto Santo, the walking football competition, aimed at athletes over the age of 50, arrived at Ribeira Brava’s Municipal Stadium.
The fun event saw the participation of teams A and B from the Ribeira Brava Senior University and Madeira Walking Football. The competitive side brought together CTT, Rami, Educação, 1.º Maio, Santacruzense and Canicense.
The Associação de Técnicos de Arbitragem da RAM (Association of Refereeing Technicians of Madeira) organised the event with the support of Ribeira Brava Town Hall.
Below are the reflections from our MWF players who participated in the tournament …
Kate: A very enjoyable tournament for the fun team, respect and fun for all, all team members played and another cup for the poncha bar cabinet, well done everyone. Competitive team played well, 4th place is a good result when you think you are playing footballers, social after was great fun 🥰🥰
Vincent: Great to see the fun team win yet again. Best fun team in Madeira. Good performance by the competitive team too. Played 3. Won 1 Drew 1 ( against last tournament winners ) and lost last game by 2 goals with opportunities to have scored more. Builds on the results from the last tournament. With the team strengthened by Nuno and maybe Vitor and Ebillio to join in too. The Future’s bight , the future’s MWF. Well done everybody . And now to relax 👍💪🍺
Reporter Jes Ter: As the sun rose over the mountains of Ribeira Brava, the blue and yellows of the MWF bathed in the pleasant temperatures and the prospects of another successful tournament. They did not disappoint. As the battling yellows (competitive) met their opening challenge head on against the last times champions, and contested equally achieving an excellent draw, followed by their first tournament game win, and ending up with a spirited and high scoring game in the 3rd place play-offs, where the smallest of margins made all the difference. Leaving the yellows in a very respectable 4th place.
The mighty blues (fun) opener was verse their nemesis the RB1, and in a display of fine game management kept their foe impotent and pinned into their own half. While splitting their defence to score two goals based on some precise passing moves.
Mao 1st couldn’t raise a fun team, so the next game was a walkover, leaving just the RB2 to beat to take the title again. Another fine display of man (he, she, they, it) marking and interceptions cracked the RB2 defence wide open. During which Stig and the defence achieved a sun tan, Kate and Pops found the back of the net repeatedly, and Paddy was yellow carded for his 2nd goal celebration and was substituted for Don, who completed the rout with an excellent snipers goal, winning both six nil and the tournament without conceding a single goal.
